993 Porsche Cup Car RestorationIn late June of 2009 one of At Speed Motorsports' racing clients suffered a good amount of damage to their 993 Porsche Cup Car. The vehicle lost traction at Virginia International Raceway (VIR) and ended up going head first into a tire wall. At Speed plans a full restoration of the vehicle which includes a complete tear-down and rebuild of the vehicle, in which all parts will be cleaned, refurbished or replaced. At Speed Motorsports has a great racing history, which includes building and servicing many client track cars throughout Maryland, Virginia and Washington DC. This project will be well documented from beginning to end, to help show current and prospective clients the quality and quantity of work At Speed Motorsports is capible of. Video Walk-around of the Porsche 993 Cup Car
Below are a few pictures that were taken over a few days while At Speed has been taking the 993 apart and preparing it for the body shop.

We removed damaged body work including front right and left fenders, hood, and front bumper with splitter. Once body work was removed from the front end we could get a better idea on how severe the damage was. We then continued to remove the fuel tank, front wiring harness, all ABS components, front air jack and HVAC blower assembly. The final part of dissassembly was to remove the front suspension to inspect for damage. Once the Suspension components were removed we cleaned and closely inspected for parts needing replacement.

The 993 completely stripped and ready for the body shop. New body pieces include, front and left front fenders, hood, three piece front spoiler/splitter, front bumper, grill insert and rear bumper. To prepare the car for the body shop we removed the engine and transmission. Once removed, the fuel system, engine wiring harness and oil lines were taken off the chasis for cleaning and inspection. Other items removed in preperation for paint were the driver's seat, fire system, camera and radio systems, gauges and all interir wiring harnesses, along with the bedal assembly and safety restraint systems.

The vehicle is expected back from the body and paint shop shortly so the re-building process can begin. All factory Porsche parts have been ordered and shipped from both the United States and Germany. At Speed is excited to begin putting this beauty back together. Let the rebuild begin!
